Vision/Hearing Screening – All 7th graders will be screened for vision/hearing problems. Referrals will be sent home if a problem is detected.
Eye Care for Kids and the Bellaire Lions Club assists us in getting glasses free of charge if there is financial need. The nurse must be notified with the request.
Scoliosis – (Curvature of the spine) All 6th graders are screened for scoliosis. This is done during P.E. class and takes less than one minute per student. Students are asked to bend over and without taking off their shirts the nurse looks for signs of a curvature. If a problem is detected, a letter will be sent home. The students are seen individually so no one is embarrassed and they are not told if the nurse thinks a referral is necessary. Referrals are not sent home with students, they are mailed home.
Acanthosis Nigricans – 7th graders are screened for Acanthosis but if you notice the markings on the back of your child’s neck, they need to be seen by a doctor. Notify the nurse as well. (see example)
Please fill out the enrollment card and return it to school with emergency numbers. Very often students have to stay in the nurse’s office all day because no one can be contacted. Students will only be allowed to go home with persons whose names are listed on the enrollment card or the additional paper that is provided to list emergency contacts. Whoever picks the student up will be required to show identification.
Parents – If your child receives an immunization; please send the immunization documentation to the Nurse’s office so that it can be entered into the computer.
