Magnet Open House

November 14, 2009

  • Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 West 18th Street), 9:00 a.m.–Noon: Information sessions and school booths for interested parents and students
  • All Schools: 9:00 a.m.–Noon

Magnet Awareness Week

November 16–20, 2009

  • Tours for parents available at each Magnet program daily beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Applications Accepted

November 16, 2009
  • Applications for all Magnet programs accepted beginning November 16, 2009
  • Applications and brochures will be available October 9, 2009.

Application Deadline

January 8, 2010

  • Applications for Magnet programs must be postmarked no later than January 8, 2010, for guaranteed consideration in the first round.
  • Applications received after January 8 will be accepted on a space-available basis.

Parent Notification Day

March 26, 2010

  • Application status information mailed to parents on March 26, 2010 (postmarked)

Parent Response Deadline

April 9, 2010
  • Parents must notify Magnet school-of-choice of student "intent to attend" by April 9, 2010 (postmarked)

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Fine Arts:

  • Grade point average of 78 or better
  • Good conduct
  • Good attendance
  • Experience or potential in one of the Fine Arts areas
  • Audition ranking
 
ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Applicant must submit the following:

Fine Arts Applicants only

  • Completed application
  • Most recent report card and test records and previous year’s report card.
  • Permanent record/transcript
  • Immunization record
  • Proof of HISD residency (apartment lease agreement (with child's name on it, light/gas/water bill receipt, or affidavit of residence)
  • Guardian's Photo ID
  • Auditions will be at the time specified in a mail-out letter (after all requirements have been met.)
